Murals / Art
From 2023, painting murals – or ‘muralising’ as I like to call it – is a bigger part of my working life than I really ever envisaged. Whilst it’s very enjoyable it is also very hard work at times. That is not a moan, just a statement, as I feel fortunate to paint them and that people want me to paint them. A few photos are here for you to, I hope, enjoy. The larger projects are generally done with my ‘muralist’ colleague and mate Johnny. The badges are solo creations though, and many of you will know that they’re straight copies from the tin badges of the early 1970s given away via the Evening Post and the Green Post. That said, there were only 12 LU players featured then whereas there are now 26 LU men on the walls of the East Stand stairwell (it’s the Jack Charlton Stand officially now). The steps are my labour too, but ideas for designs are a team effort, sometimes including Paul Kent’s input again, too. Finally, the ‘SuperStu!’ painting isn’t a mural, it’s just a fun project completed during lockdown. Stuart Dallas has retired from the game recently so I thought I’d put the painting up here. I believe he received the original but can’t be sure… plus he might have thought it was rubbish anyway!
Drumskins. I have been ‘intrigued’ for years and years about logos and pictures on artistes’ bass drums, I can’t quite explain why. Anyway, fully in the arty-farting-about mode, I asked my good friend Paul Richardson, great drummer for great covers band The Flukes, if he fancied being the guinea pig. He was keen on the idea so I’ve now got him in a cage and running on a huge treadmill in the garden, and with his cheeks stuffed with nuts! Ah, hold on, that’s a hamster isn’t it, not a guinea pig? Anyway, who cares eh, here’s a few designs we’ve enjoyed collaborating on!
